Hi Planner Girls! It’s me, Celene! I just got my May Little Bits Box! I am so giddy with excitement to play with it! As some of you may already know, I am from Manila, Philippines. So it would take about 2-3 weeks (or more!) for Planner Girls in the PH to finally have our boxes in our hands. So imagine our eyes go green whenever we see planner friends in the US post theirs! But no matter, patience is a virtue and every piece carefully curated by Mommy Lhey for our Little Bits Box is special and is definitely worth the extra wait! Now, just look at those pretties!
I’ve recently started to get fond of tiny things and collectibles, especially those of tiny toys and tiny food preps all over Instagram & You Tube. I’ve started following and watching videos of these tiny cute creations that I was inspired to do something tiny and cute too!
When I saw the May Little Bits’ digital pretties, a wonderful idea came up! And so for today, I’m teaching you how to make Mini Planner Charms using the May Little Bits Box.
Here are the items you need for this project:
- May Little Bits Digital Downloads – I love how the link for our digital downloads’ much shorter now!
- May Little Bits Ephemeras – Mini Hearts
- May Little Bits Clear Stamp Set
- White Cardstocks and Plain White Paper
- Paper Cutter and/or Scissors
- Craft Knife
- Plastic Laminating Sheet and Laminator – not really required but if you want your creation to last long, you may consider having it laminated to protect the edges of the paper
- Piercing/Punching Tool
- Gold Jump Rings, Lobster Locks, Chains & Paperclips
- Long Nose/Flat Nose Pliers
Okay! Let’s get Crafty!
I started by downloading all of the digital files included in the May Little Bits Box link. I chose my favourite prints and set them on Microsoft Word.
For a Mini Notebook
I scaled my chosen photo to 1.5” in height and 1.16” in width. I made sure I have 2 of these so one can be the front cover of my notebook and the other would be the back cover.
For a Mini Traveller’s Notebook
I had 3 pieces of 1.5”x1.16” scaled photos overlap each other. The first one is the back cover of the mini TN, the second one is the spine, then overlapping about 80% of the second one is the third one which is the front cover of your mini TN. You may decide how thick you want your spine to be by adjusting the overlap. To overlap, don’t forget to set your third photo layout to ‘in front of text’.
Once you are satisfied with your layout, print on cardstock paper then cut accordingly.
Place cut cardstocks inside a laminating sheet, laminate and cut along the closed edges. Make sure to trim the corners of your mini laminated cardstocks so they are rounded and not sharp and pointed.
Once done, punch holes on your mini laminated cardstocks.
For the Mini Notebooks
Join both front & back covers making sure that the printed side is on the outer sides/facing up then punch 3 holes on the left side of the front cover and at the back, right side of the back cover). These holes are where your rings would go to hold your notebook cover & sheets together.
For the Mini TN
Punch holes on the spine, 1 in the middle and 2 each side by side on the bottom and top parts of the spine. These holes are where your mini TN elastics would go.
At this point you can start making sheets for your mini notebooks and TNs. The size of the sheets would be up to you as to how thick you want your notebook/TN to go. It would be important to take note that your sheets should at least be 1/8” shorter than your notebook or TN cover.
Once you have your sheets we can proceed to the next step of putting them all together.
For the Mini Notebooks
Punch your paper sheets using the holes on your cover as guides. Once done, align your front cover, sheets and back cover together and place 4mm – 7mm gold jump rings on the 3 holes with the help of your pliers. To place an elastic closure on your notebook, punch a hole on your back cover — in the middle right most part. Get an elastic string, put 2 ends of the elastic together and insert inside the hole. Fit the elastic to the size your mini notebook by looping the connected end of your elastic to the front cover. Once you got the right fit, knot your elastics on top of the hole to lock it in place.
For the Mini TN
For the inner elastics, get an elastic string, put one end on bottom hole 1 and another end on bottom hole 2. Once your elastics are inside, insert one end of the elastic on top hole 1 and loop it through top hole 2. Tie both ends of elastics together to secure inner elastics. For the outer elastics, get an elastic string, join both ends together and insert inside the middle. Make sure you insert from the outside middle hole of the mini TN. With your hand on the two elastic ends, loop the elastics on the outer side over your mini TN to size up, carefully adjust and knot inside to lock in place. Don’t forget to insert your paper sheets to fill in your mini TN!
Don’t’ forget to adorn your mini planners with charms! I adorned mine with a heart charm. I got these mini hearts from the Little Bits ephemeras and cut them and punched mini holes on top so I can insert them on a jump ring to hang on my Mini TN elastics. Yaay!
You can also add more creativity on the inside pages by stamping on them, printing digital images to color, or even writing a message inside for a planner friend! Your imagination and creativity would make your mini planner charms more cute and pretty!
For one of the mini TNs, I decided to place pockets where I can insert mini sticker sheets and a mini notepad. It’s my favourite of them all!
Once you are happy with them you may now place in your lobster locks, chain and/or paperclips! These would be so fun to give away to your planner friends! You may keep one for yourself too, to prettify your planners!
Hope you had fun reading and I have imparted in you a spark of creativity to start a craft project soon! Until next time!
